Once you've unlocked the navigators as playable characters (see below) press Special Weapon (default Triangle on PS2 and S on PC) on the character select screen to view them. Alia will give general hints of stage layouts and enemy intel, while Layer primarily gives hints of enemy & boss characteristics and weaknesses, finally Pallette will give hints of alternate routes or hidden areas within stages. Upon selecting your team, you'll have the option of choosing one of three navigators (or none) to see you through the mission. Once X recovers new armor suits, you'll have the option of using and customizing them (in the Neutral Armor's case) or sticking with normal X without armor equipped. Much like X7 you'll have two characters to choose before tackling a mission (except the inital Noah's Park run-through). The final three bosses have health bars just under the entire width of the screen.Enemies exhibit stronger attacks and defense (such as the floating turrets shooting beams rather than small energy balls).
Bosses will engage their Overdrives with half their health lost.Watch extra cutscenes after the final Vile battle and during the final Sigma battle. All enemies are at standard health and attack level. Can't bring developed chips into a New Game + session. The game will end upon defeating (final) Sigma, with a teaser after the credits of the final battle against Lumine. Can't unlock the Ultimate Armor, Zero's Black Armor, Axl's White Armor or the Σ Blade through selecting New Game +.Can't fight Cut Man in Optic Sunflower's stage.Enemies and mini-bosses (including the Crab Mechaniloid) are much weaker with respect to Normal mode. Many chips won't ever be available to develop. You'll have a bundle of chips already developed, and there won't be any Rare Metals to find.Differences experienced between the three in gameplay and cutscenes are: Mega Man X8 features three difficulty settings: Easy, Normal & Hard (selected when you start a new game). If you've finished the game already and want a quick overview on what else there is to do, you'll find everything here. Much of this information can be considered to be spoilers, so it's advised that you use caution while reading on as certain things like game endings and hidden unlockables will be revealed here (but are presented at the bottom of the page). But X8 has some other new ideas, including the ability to switch between characters during actual gameplay, that freshen things up.This section deals with hints and tips detailing various pieces of information about the game that don't really fit anywhere else. Again, it’s an experiment to mix things up that doesn’t work. Some levels feature awful, Star Fox-like space shooter stuff that is difficult to control and frustrating to play. It still uses 3D models, but the stages stick to 2D. Mega Man X8 course corrects a bit and is the better game. And the 3D character models lack the detail, style, and sharpness of the PlayStation pixel games. You just walk around and fight things without the platforming that makes the franchise special.
#Megaman x8 pc vs ps2 series
That sounds innovative and exciting for a series that rarely experiments with the 3D world, but these sections are uninspiring. And while most of the game sticks to the 2D plane, stages have 3D areas. Mega Man X7 on PlayStation 2 was the grand experiment. I especially hate how much more often these entries literally pause the game to fill the screen with boring boxes of dialogue. That all seemed novel in Mega Man X4, but it quickly got annoying as the series progressed. But they also bloat themselves with even more of the anime-style story nonsense. They look and play similarly to Mega Man X4. Mega Man X5 and Mega Man X6 came out for the PlayStation. But they’re still fun! They just feel more monotonous, and some of them make strange design decisions. None of these games are as good as Mega Man X … or X2, X3, and X4.
